 Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) has opened up an exciting new part of amateur radio for me. Using a handheld radio, a small hotspot, and the internet, I can communicate with amateur radio operators across my state, across the country, and even around the world.

Whether you're new to DMR or just curious about how it works, I hope this page helps make it a little less intimidating.

DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) is a digital voice communication mode used by amateur radio operators worldwide. Unlike traditional FM repeaters, DMR uses digital technology to provide clear audio, worldwide connectivity, and access to thousands of talkgroups.

With the right equipment and a hotspot or repeater, your handheld radio can reach operators almost anywhere in the world.

Don't be discouraged if your first DMR setup doesn't work immediately. Mine didn't! Every challenge taught me something new, and by solving each problem one step at a time, I gained a much better understanding of how DMR works.
